About Me
Michael McDyer (b. 1957) is a painter who loves color, texture and art for art sake. His subjects are always the beauty of the human form, nature and color. Whether painting an atmospheric landscape to communicate a countryside rich in form, texture and the effects of light, or simply a richly expressive abstract painting.
His highly evocative landscapes and seascapes emerge from the impressionist tradition and capture a soothing and magical dappled light. These compositions, though taken directly from nature, border on abstract and are rich in texture, special ambiguities and fluid movement. Recognizable elimants appear and disappear within areas of pure abstraction. Inspired by emotional responses to particular situations and events, these paintings work on several levels, and pull together visual stimulation, emotional response and symbolic content.
His expressive paintings play on multiple layers of color and form. Each of these works features swaths of intense color that flow and blend freely beneath the surface, seducing the viewer with extreme aesthetic pleasure they engender.
Born in Miami, he has lived his adult life in New York and is in love with the diverse landscapes of New England. He studied at the Art Students League, School of Visual Arts and The New School. He spent his professional life working in Manhattan as a graphic designer and art director.
He has had solo exhibitions in New York City, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. His paintings are currently featured throughtout Drew Patrick Spa in Bay Shore, NY, hanging in treatment rooms and relaxation areas where they invoke feelings of calm and relaxation for guests. His paintings are held in many private collections as well as corporate collections of American Express, and Brooklyn College.
